Visits & Practical works at CERN
You will ABSOLUTELY need your passport (or ID) and VISA (when applicable) for excursions and visits.
Lectures / tutorials / exams
Students are required to bring their own lap-top or tablet along with an appropriate international power adaptor (French sockets at ESI ; Swiss sockets at CERN, PSI).
All course materials will be available for download in pdf format from the Indico platform.

Note that hard copies of lecture slides are NOT distributed. We therefore strongly recommend that you have software which allows you to annotate pdf files.
Lecture theatres have individual cable connexion (RJ45) to internet and we strongly recommend that you bring an appropriate adapter if your PC/Mac/tablet is not equipped with an RJ45 ethernet plug. ESI will provide RJ45 cables only (no adapters). WiFi is available elsewhere in the building.
For some tutorials you may need a scientific calculator, compass, set square, protractor, etc. ESI only has a small supply of such tools, so please bring your own if you have them.
Students taking the exams will have access to downloaded course materials on their pc/tablet/laptop (during the exams, the internet connexion is off and mobile telephones must be deposited with the supervising lecturer). Scientific calculators are allowed during exams.
This camping site offers modern and comfortable mobile-homes and chalets fully equipped for the winter season with a kitchenette, sink, refrigerator and micro-wave, coffee machine, living room with French TV, bath room with shower and toilet.
A self-service laundry area with washing machines and tumble dryers is available on site.
Kitchenware and bedding are included but there are no bath towels. Please remember to bring your own towels.
If you ask ESI to arrange your accommodation (negociated prices for weekly stay), you will have an individual room in a shared mobile-home.
Mandatory Deposit: On the arrival day the Residence ask for a refundable cash deposit of €50.00.
On your last day you will make an appointment with the reception. If your accommodation is clean you will get your deposit back.

We kindly ask to note that :
- Extra nights before or after the school dates are NOT included (contact La Colombière for extra nights)
- Breaksfast or meals are NOT included (shops for groceries are a 10-minute walk)
- Towels are NOT provided at Residence La Colombière
- ESI does NOT organize accommodation for short-term participants, only for participants coming for a full
course (4 weeks lectures + 1 week exams)
Meeting time at 12:00 (lunch offered)
On the first day we kindly ask you to reach Archamps by your own mean of transportation.
Prior to the school, we will invite you to connect with each other students on social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn) to organise
shared taxi from Geneva airport if you wish. We will then escort you to the residence on the first day.
For the duration of the course, ESI will organise daily transfer from and to the residence.
Archamps Technopole :
The school is located on a business park, where the public transport service is limited.
If you have your own vehicle, we encourage you to come with it for the duration of the course.
This will facilitate your daily travel between the school and the residence, as well as excursions on weekends.

A cash dispenser and supermarket are available at walking distance from the residence.
Please note that these services along with tobacconist’s shop are NOT available at walking distance from the school. We advise you to bring some cash with you upon your arrival at Geneva.
ESI offers two coffee breaks per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Monday working lunch
ESI offers a lunch buffet every Monday, shared with ESIPAP school students and all lecturers from both schools. Menus include vegan dishes.
Each week ESI organises an after-work food-truck for participants and lecturer, also inviting former students working locally to join us ! A good opportunity to meet and discuss !
ESI proposes various type of dinner. Thank to our caterers, you will have the chance to enjoy different sort of food : the French burgers, lebanese food and more to discover !
Menus include vegan dishes.
Please note that these meals and coffee breaks costs are included in the tuition.
For the rest of the week, you will have to provide your own meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Shops for groceries are available a 10-minute walk from the residence.
At school, a student cafeteria is available with micro-waves and a large refrigerator. A free hot-drinks distributor is also available.
