Christian Morel is head of the imXgam research team of the Centre for Particle Physics of Marseille (CPPM) and Professor at Aix-Marseille University. He earned a Physics Engineering degree from EPFL in 1985 and a PhD from the University of Lausanne in experimental high energy physics in 1990. He has worked at the Department of Radiology of the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) to set up the PET cyclotron unit of the hospital from 1994 until 2000 and then until 2005, at EPFL where he founded and chaired the OpenGATE collaboration dedicated to the development of the GATE Monte Carlo simulation platform for emission tomography. In 2005, he was appointed Professor at the Aix-Marseille University where he is involved inter alia with the development of photon counting CT with hybrid pixel detectors. Christian Morel is author of more than 150 publications.
He was junior laureate of the French ANR Programme « Chaires d’excellence » in 2005, received the Rotblat Medal of IOP in 2009 and was laureate of the Grand Prix Yves Rocard of the French Physical Society in 2015.
