Dr. Maurizio Vretenar - After graduating from the University of Trieste (Italy), Maurizio joined CERN in 1987 where he worked on the design and construction of different proton linear accelerators and the related Radio Frequency systems, gaining a particular experience in Radio Frequency Quadrupoles.

 

From 2007 he was project leader for the construction of Linac4, the new 160 MeV linac injector for the LHC upgrade, which was successfully inaugurated in 2017.

 

From 2013 to 2017 he was the coordinator of the EU-supported EuCARD2 project for accelerator R&D, and in 2017 he took over the coordination of the successor project, ARIES (Accelerator Research and Innovation for European Science and Society), which will last until 2021.
