My name is Daniel Sabio Ruiz. I am 24 years old and come from Barcelona, where I did my bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology at the ETSEIB (UPC).
I did three different internships about nuclear radiation at the ALBA and ISIS synchrotrons, and my bachelor's final project was about radiological protection.
JUAS was my first international experience; it is an amazing course, despite the fact that it is very condensed, taught by Europe's best accelerator specialists. This course gives you a great overview of the particle accelerator world, including practical work and fascinating visits to CERN and PSI, where you can see from first-hand real applications of this pioneering technology. You can learn a lot, not only academically speaking, but also from the others students who have very different backgrounds, from master’s students to professional workers in this field.
It is true that it is not an easy course, sometimes was hard to assimilate all the concepts (I think that I am still doing it), however, it is completely worth it. The experiences that I lived and the knowledge that I acquired were very enriching. Furthermore, I am still in contact with some of my classmates.
I also attended the Culham Plasma Physics Summer School where lecturers are drawn from the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and leading laboratories and university groups in magnetic and laser confinement fusion, space and astrophysical plasmas and low temperature plasmas from the UK and abroad.
Thanks to these experiences, I am currently finishing my master's degree in Industrial Engineering while I am working at F4E (Fusion for Energy) in Barcelona. F4E is responsible for providing Europe’s contribution to ITER, the world’s largest scientific partnership that aims to demonstrate fusion as a viable and sustainable source of energy. As a junior engineer at the diagnostics department, I am involved in providing technical support in the field of ITER diagnostic systems.
I am really enthusiastic about this project and I am keen to continue my professional development in the fields of nuclear fusion and particle accelerators.
